Maui Time Share - October 2011

Mike and Sandy went back to their Maui time-share, this time along with Danville friends Pat and Jessie. This is Mike's favorite among the time-shares. Kaanapali Beach is very nice, the views across the water to the nearby islands of Lanai and Molokai are beautiful (especially at sunset), and the little town of Lahaina just down the road is always fun to visit. We had a little bit of trouble with the rental car, but quickly got that all straightened out. On our way from the airport to the resort, we stopped at the Halimali General Store for lunch -- this is a Conde Naste and Zagat recommended restaurant, and one of the best on Maui -- delicious !

The first day on Maui was much like all those to come; a few clouds, light breezes, the odd afternoon 5 minute shower, warm but not hot -- very nice! The sunsets were beautiful as usual, the beach wide and clean, and we hadn't even known there was a winery on Maui!

At a botanic garden, the tourists found the wedding gazebo and a Jacaranda tree (never seen in Northern California), and then in Lahaina town, one of the world's largest banyon trees.

The travelers took in a magic show, ran into the surf with abandon (well, once, anyway), and found how Hawaiians combine adult beverages with heath foods.

Finally the big day arrived, the travelers got up early, and set out for the "Drive to Hana." They made it, in spite of the narrow, winding road, motorists in huge trucks going the other way on the one-way sections, etc, etc. Some of the scenery is pretty amazing!
